BLACKPOOL DRYERS (2025)

These images were made during a series of visits to the largely derelict site of the Blackpool Dryers at Trewoon, near St Austell.

The site, its towers and vast sheds once accommodated hundreds of workers in the task of processing white china clay from nearby Blackpool Quarry. Now, save for the sound of diesel trains passing by on Cornwall's main line, it is largely silent. The site's own network of rail tracks is overgrown and its sheds empty. Size and levels of contamination are an obstacle to the site’s regeneration and remedial work is limited to containing health and safety risks.

The images explore the Blackpool Dryers’ past and document the present – pointing to the region's industrial history along with its endemic decline.
